South Barber High School was one of 39 high schools in Kansas recognized for academic excellence in US News & Word Report. To achieve the Bronze award, SBHS had to meet two of three standards established by US News & World Report and School Evaluation Services, a data research and analysis business. The standards emphasized that a school educate all students, not just the college bound students. To analyze this, they used state proficiency standards as the measuring benchmarks primarily focusing on math and reading proficiency rates.

As they gathered data, they determined whether students at SBHS were performing better than "average for similar students in the state." The achievement of this award recognizes the effort students and teachers put forth in striving toward academic excellence. SBHS also met the "Standard of Excellence" for two consecutive years (2006 and 2007) in both Math and Reading, plus Writing in 2007.

Over the past week, the K-8 webpage has been revamped and completely updated. Also, track pictures and basketball pictures have been added to the high school webpage. Updates to come in the next few days include many sports pictures for the K-8 webpage and a student body page for the K-8.
